So, you’ve decided to protect your car with a ceramic coating. This can bring many benefits, like saving you time and money on maintenance throughout your ownership of the car.

General maintenance tips are always crucial to stay on top of when you have ceramic coating and one of the questions we often get asked is whether you can polish on top of ceramic coating; let’s look at what the answer to this is and how you can care for your car optimally.

Can You Polish Ceramic Coating?

No, you shouldn’t polish ceramic coating because it can harm the integrity of the coating. This might lead to the deterioration of the coating and you’d therefore need to have the ceramic coating reapplied to fix it.

Thankfully, however, there isn’t much need to apply polish to your car if you have ceramic coating on it. That’s because the hydrophobic element of the coating should result in a far cleaner and glossier surface.

You must remember to dry your car thoroughly after washing it though; otherwise, it might be subjected to watermarks. These can be quickly and effectively removed using Water Spot Remover

Polishing the glass and metal parts of your vehicle is perfectly fine and is a good way to ensure these areas keep their shine. When polishing the glass or metal surfaces be cautious as you don’t want any of the polish to spread or splatter onto the body and ruin your car’s protective layer.

Can You Wax Over a Ceramic Coating?

The short answer is No. The reason for this is that applying wax over a ceramic coating can interfere with the performance of the coating and significantly impact dirt and water repellency.

Think of over-applying a moisturiser to your skin and the skin becomes sticky as the excess product sits on the top and smears. This is what causes the water-beading behaviour to change and can leave your fresh glossy surface looking dull and smeary.

The only product you need to apply over a ceramic coating is a spray-on sealant such as Gtechniq Ceramic Sealant which is designed to work with in conjunction with our ceramic coatings.
