Caring for your Gtechniq coating
A question we often get asked at Gtechniq is now that my car is ceramic coated how do I care for it?
With a plethora of car care products out on the market, it can be difficult to work out which products are best for your freshly coated paint and in what order they should be used. Let’s take a look at what products to use and why.
When it comes to shampoos, Gtechniq recommends Gwash. Gwash has been specifically designed to work in harmony with all our coatings. Gwash is 100 percent biodegradable and produces a high foam content that breaks the bond between the dirt film and your vehicle’s paintwork. Gwash does not contain any polymers or additives that can interfere with the coating performance.
Top Tip: Some shampoos contain polymers or additives to add gloss or protection. These polymers can interfere with the performance of the ceramic coatings. Gtechniq recommends avoiding these additives and just using a pure shampoo.
Gtechniq W6 Iron & General Fallout Remover is a super versatile product that can be used on paint and all painted or clear coated alloy wheels. The thick formula clings to the surface and effectively removes the most stubborn and potentially damaging contaminants from paint and wheels. Iron & General Fallout Remover also contains a corrosion inhibitor designed to keep your wheel looking great.
Top Tip: When spraying the wheel cleaner on the surface, start at the top and work your way down.
During the spring and summer months, the front of cars get peppered with bugs and flies. Gtechniq’s W8 Bug Remover utilises unique chemistry that makes it very effective at dissolving bugs but is gentle enough so that it does not remove previously applied coatings or waxes. Simply spray the product onto the surface and watch the bugs dissolve in front of your eyes.
Top Tip: Apply Gtechniq W8 to the surface of the paint and allow it to dwell on the surface for a few minutes. For best results hose of the product with a pressure washer.
When it comes to drying a vehicle Gtechniq has a couple of options. For cars that are not coated we recommend the MF2 Microfibre Drying Towel. With its high absorbency, large size and soft fibres, this towel helps to minimise marring and delivers incredible drying performance.
For coated cars, Gtechniq recommend the MF4 Diamond Sandwich Drying Towel that offers a significantly higher absorption rate over traditional microfibre drying towels. This Ultra-soft highly absorbent outer layers wick water into the towels core reservoir, leaving a streak-free finish.
Top Tip: Periodically wash the drying towels to maintain their absorbency.
Apply the finishing touches to your paint by using Gtechniq Quick Detailer. Quick Detailer makes buffing away watermarks, fingerprints, light dusting or smears left behind after washing a breeze. This spray-on wipe-off product is ideal for use on your cars bodywork, plastic and wheels.
